Trae Tha Truth x Mysonne: If You’re Scared Stay Inside
No stranger to being on the frontlines whenever the people of Houston are in need, Trae Tha Truth and the Relief Gang, including DJ Mr. Rogers, have been out in Houston providing food, water, generators, and other supplies to those still dealing with the aftermath of the recent winter storm that left many without power and water.
While the snow and ice have melted, Trae reminds everyone that, “It’s bad out here man, getting hot meals is one thing, and that’s important but we are looking into what’s going to happen next week when people have to return to homes that have been flooded from burst pipes, and unlivable conditions...it’s a non-stop fight for survival."
In the coming weeks, folks will still be dealing with the damage done inside their homes, requiring plumbing and contract work, which is why Trae and Rogers have been working on a plan that will call on local plumbers to join them in their efforts by providing plumbing services to families at a fair rate. The freezing temperatures and ice storm affected families throughout the state of Texas, so Trae and the Relief Gang will be looking to expand their efforts to other cities like Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin. For those interested in supporting these efforts you can visit Angel by Nature or follow the Relief Gang on Instagram, where you’ll find posts offering aid and sharing ways to support.
Trae’s work spans beyond Texas, and beyond weather related crises. He has said, “As long as people in this country are subjected to systematic racism, inequality, and criminal justice disparities, our work is not done. I am even more dedicated to using my voice and the platform I have as an artist to echoing the voices of the people and protecting their rights and liberties.” He has used his platform to help organize a march of over 80,000 people for George Floyd and spearheaded a Juneteenth Ride for Justice. He was also on the frontline in Louisville, Kentucky, where he stood alongside and worked closely with others in the call for justice for Breonna Taylor. It was there, while working with Until Freedom and its Co-Founder and independent hip-hop artist, Mysonne “The General” Linen, that the two partnered to release the album If You’re Scared Stay Inside.
The collaboration was inspired by their shared experience on the front line while living in Louisville and working and fighting with the community for justice for Breonna Taylor. Trae shared with Black Texas Magazine that, “Hopefully it’s music they can appreciate for the culture. With everything that is going on, it’s something that is needed.” Mysonne shared with Black Texas Magazine that they were inspired by their “living conditions and what [they] were doing in the community. Being in Breonna Taylor’s hometown, fighting for her, being with her mother. Just seeing the energy in Louisville.” He went on to say, the music “came from a place of [them] just wanting to vent about things that [they] were thinking and ways [they] were feeling.” He has said, “This project speaks directly to the work we’ve done and are doing to right the wrongful deaths of Breonna, George and the countless others who have had their lives cut short at the hands of law enforcement. We hope that our music can act as motivation and battle anthems for those who are dedicated to justice being upheld in our communities and beyond.”
The collection of 14 protest-motivated anthems has been released exclusively by WorldStarHipHop (WSHH), and includes visuals. The visuals for “You Know How We Coming,” “Time for Change,” and “Prayer for Me” have already dropped. “Prayer for Me,” the first track on the album, features Big K.R.I.T. “Time for Change,” has an animated video and features Styles P, Bun B, Ink, TIP, Anthony Hamilton, Conway, Krayzie Bone, E-40, and David Banner. They shared with Black Texas Magazine that there are more visuals to come, having even shot 5 in one day.
There’s something on the album for everyone. So be sure to support the project and check it out. If you’re interested in supporting and learning more about the on the ground work Trae and Mysonne are doing for the community, visit Angel by Nature and Until Freedom.
