Dream Con Moves Festivities to Austin
Austin, Texas has a new convention in the works as Real Dreamers Change the World (RDCWorld) will be hosting Dream Con, a citywide anime and gaming convention, at the Austin Convention Center from July 28 to July 30, 2023.
After being turned down as guests multiple times for other popular anime and gaming conventions, RDCWorld decided to take matters into their own hands and create a new convention experience, launching Dream Con in Waco in 2018. Since then, the celebration of multiple interests including pop culture, comics, art, cosplay, and music has brought like-minded individuals out in droves. In one year’s time, Dream Con has grown from 6,000 attendees in 2022 to anticipating nearly 20,000 attendees for the upcoming convention in July of 2023.
Dream Con is a Black-owned organization that continues to make strides in the anime community by being inclusive of all creators of every background – giving people of color a safe place to be themselves. Dream Con seeks to make a powerful impact in the community and across the country by showing everyone that dreams can change the world!
The goal of the convention is to provide entertainment for attendees all weekend long, with a traditional exhibit hall, car show, memorable meet and greets and invigorating concerts. The convention has staple events such as exclusive voice actor and creator panels, Super Smash Bros All-Stars and gaming tournaments, a cosplay contest and runway, video premieres, and a charity dodgeball tournament.
