March 2020 Movie Preview

Just because Black History Month has come and gone doesn’t mean that Black Excellence is taking a break. This month, there are great options hitting the big screen with even bigger names like Nia Long, Samuel L. Jackson, and many more. Onward

March 06

Set in a suburban fantasy world, two teenage elf brothers, Ian & Barney Lightfoot (Tom Holland & Chris Pratt) embark on a quest to discover if there is still magic out there. Pixar's Onward is both written and directed by animation filmmaker Dan Scanlon, director of the Pixar movie Monsters University, as well as a mockumentary film titled Tracy previously. 

The Banker

March 06

Based on a true story, The Banker centers on the revolutionary businessmen Bernard Garrett (Anthony Mackie) and Joe Morris (Samuel L. Jackson), who devise an audacious and risky plan to take on the racially oppressive establishment of the 1960s by helping other African Americans pursue the American dream. Along with Garrett's wife Eunice (Nia Long), they train a working-class white man, Matt Steiner (Nicholas Hoult), to pose as the rich and privileged face of their burgeoning real estate and banking empire – while Garrett and Morris pose as a janitor and a chauffeur. Their success ultimately draws the attention of the federal government, which threatens everything the four have built.

Bloodshot

Based on the bestselling comic books, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. Now filled with an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he's an unstoppable force – stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn't know what's real and what's not – but he's on a mission to find out.


A Quiet Place: Part II

Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

Vivarium

March 27

A young couple (Jesse Eisenberg & Imogen Poots) looking for the perfect home find themselves trapped in a mysterious labyrinth-like neighborhood of identical houses. Vivarium is directed by Irish filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan, his second feature film after Without Name previously, and a few other short films. 

Mulan

March 27

Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan (Liu Yifei) is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.
