Float Fest Bringing Big Experience to San Marcos

Texas heat in July is often in a dreaded triple-digit groove, and one of the best ways to escape the heat is by getting down to San Marcos — just south of Austin — July 21 and 22 for Float Fest to enjoy music from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Run the Jewels, Bun B and many more...not to mention tubing through the San Marcos River.

For those unfamiliar with Float Fest, it’s a fairly immersive experience. The gates at Cool River Ranch will open at 8:00 a.m. to festival goers planning to float the river on Saturday and Sunday. Upon arrival, head over to the box office to redeem your passes and get your wristbands — depending on what all you plan to do, there’s tubing, concert and camping passes. If you’re one of the cool kids with a camping pass, you can check in to your campsite on Friday at 2:00 p.m.

If you’re tubing the river — which you definitely should — the festival will have shuttles to take tubers upstream to a drop-in location. Floating with river lasts anywhere between two and four hours, so be prepared. Once the floating is done, you’ll arrive back at Cool River Ranch, and head up to the concert gates — you can change clothes or head to your car if you need to before hitting the scene.

If you’re environmentally aware, fear not! Float Fest works hard to keep the River clean by partnering with local businesses like Don’s Fish Camp, Texas State Tubes, and The Eyes of the San Marcos River to encourage ways for guests to float responsibly, assist with trash pick up, as well as do a deep river clean up.

This year’s lineup includes a wide variety of huge names to keep festival goers jamming all day and night.
