5 Sexy Styles For This Season

We all know that artificial weaves are expensive, and getting them done and maintaining it adds up to lots of dollars. Not forgetting that some weaves have life spans as low as just a couple of weeks, while others can last as long as six months, that’s a lot of money going down the drain. There are many styles for Black women with processed hair, but styles for natural hair are just starting to gain prominence in the mainstream, and I’m here to help you slay this season!

Having your natural hair done in just one style can get boring fast — it’s just like having bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the rest of your life when there’s countless things you could use to make a sandwich. The same with our natural hair, there’s different ways to style it to make it look pretty, fresh and exciting instead of just one way.

Yes, natural hair can be painful at first, especially washing and combing it, but having the right comb, oils and conditioners makes it easier and keeps the hair looking pretty, neat and well kept. It’s better to spend money on your natural hair that has a long life span, than on a dead weave that has a short life span, though, it’s alright to add a little extra to more complex styles. Here are five ways to slay your natural hair.

5. Casual Curls

This style is often more suited for women with short or mid-length hair, but just about anyone can rock it. Depending on the hair texture, this style is easier for some women over others, but don’t let that deter you from giving it a try. It often requires lots of conditioners, hair rollers, water and patience. This style is becoming a favorite in many parts of Texas, including Austin because of the low-maintenance and flexibility of the style. Rocking these simple curls can easily work on a casual weekend just as easily as they can add pop to an evening outfit heading downtown. To make the hair more colorful, you can tint and highlight the ends of your hair.

4. Braided Mohawk

The mohawk is one hairstyle that makes any woman stand out. It practically demands attention and exudes a level of confidence that can’t help but be respected. If you wear it everyone notices you — own it! Be sure that you have a good stylist for this hairstyle, because they will be the difference between how long this look will last. The key to keeping this look fresh is good maintenance. There are different ways to wear a mohawk, but this season, try getting both sides shaved or braided. Whatever way you choose to wear it, know that it’s going to suit you.

3. Braids and Twists

If you’re tired of always combing and styling your hair, go for some braids or twists. Culturally speaking, these styles are deep-rooted in our history and have been a regular element of our heritage for centuries, despite what the Kardashians would have you believe. There are many different style when it comes to braids and twists, so this season try something new, and see how it looks on you. Whether you’re going for something more modest or bold designs, this could be your look all season, and it can be worn to any occasion.

2. Half Mohawk

This bold variant of the Mohawk manages to be even more of a standout because it only has one side shaved — so maybe not for the faint of heart. While it may seem risky, this style can have a big payoff if for women wanting to look young and fun. One of the best benefits of this style is that it allows you to feel renewed, just like the new season. Couple it with those casual curls for a softer appeal, or kick up the attitude with braids and show the world you’re ready to take charge of the day.

If you’ve been debating of the big chop or just starting your natural hair journey, this is the style to start with! It’s simple, less stressful and most importantly, it gives you a new look. Keeping your hair short shouldn’t been seen as a bad thing. With stars like Lupita Nyong‘o and Danai Gurira showing just how beautiful Black women can be with short hair — or none at all — there’s no reason to be afraid to embrace your beauty when a low cut. Plus, it gives you enough time to decide what you want to do next while you enjoy it.
