Kyoto Shows a Different Side of Tyga

Tyga has finally released his anticipated LP, Kyoto, and this album is a complete 180 from his last body of work, Bitch I’m the Shit 2. Not only because this album has little to no rapping, but because this is a softer side of Tyga that no one was expecting with appearances from Gucci Mane, Torey Lanez, Kyndall and 24hrs on the album.

Tyga made it clear that he would be doing a lot more singing, but to my surprise, I didn’t mind it. To be fair I didn’t really enjoy his singing in Temperature, but as the album progressed I began to really enjoy it. I won't say I prefer him singing over him rapping but I am excited to see if he gets that balance right.

When talking about this album on Everyday Struggle Tyga explained that the album likely wouldn’t have been possible without his previous relationship with Kylie Jenner, and it shows. This is definitely a heartbreak album, which was a complete shift from what I thought the sound of this album was going to be. Tyga is in his feelings from the beginning of this album to the end, with lines like “And when you need space, I give you a spaceship” and “This is when ‘I love you’ turns into ‘I hate you.’”

There are definitely songs that I will probably never play, but for the most part, this album has replay value. While this album was good for Tyga, it isn’t in my top 10 for 2018. A lot of the lines in this album are very simple and some are just simply very bad. This isn’t the album to check for if you’re looking for lyrical depth, to say the least. I don’t think that this album is going to top the charts, but I do think that it made some people take Tyga more seriously as an artist.

If you were on the fence about Tyga’s latest project I would say take a listen. You never know, this might be your next go to.
