Surround Sound: The Music Forecast for February 2018
The Grammy Awards closed out January, leaving many music fans feeling some type of way. SZA and Cardi B both left empty-handed and Jay-Z’s 4:44 continues the trend of the Knowles-Carter couple getting snubbed. But the beat goes on, and we might have a few bangers this month. February is bringing projects from legends and newcomers alike, and we’ve got the top projects you should check out this month.
Amen By Rich Brian
February 2nd
Rich Brian Formerly known as Rich Chigga will be releasing his debut album to kick the month off.. Brian gave us an idea of what he was about when he released his first single back in 2016 with “Dat $tick.” After going on a successful tour and releasing “Crisis” with 21 Savage, he also released “See Me” at the top of the year. If that was any inclination of what is to come of this album then I’m ready.
Man of the Woods By Justin Timberlake
February 2
It’s been five years since Justin gave us the “20/20 Experience,” so you know the girls are READY for this album. That being said, we’ve heard from Justin a few times since then. What radio station wasn’t playing “Can’t Stop The Feeling?” So far, he has given us three singles from the album. “Filthy,” “Say Something” and “Supplies” and all three of them give us that 2013 Justin feeling. It sounds like he simply picked up right where he left off after “20/20.” Only time will tell if that’s a good thing or not.
Savior by Iggy Azalea ft. Quavo
Early February
Though this isn’t an album I am going to throw this in there because I want to. This single is somewhat of a touchy subject because it is from her sophomore album “Surviving the Summer” that was supposed to be released back in June. 2017 was pretty hush hush from the young Aussie and with the emergence of Danielle Bregoli, AKA Bhad Bhabie, some of us can honestly say we miss the not-so-problematic Iggy Azalea.
Kyoto by Tyga
February 16th
Tyga already received a little heat for his latest project because of the cover art. Which to be fair has a tiger’s whole situation up to the breeze. This will also be an album that has more singing than many of us are used to coming from the Young Money alum. He released “Dubai Drip” last month, which, while having a solid beat, only had solid lines and as a whole song wasn’t something to write home about. Tyga does have a cult like following so I’m sure his fans are super excited about the new music. For now, I will hold out that the music will get better.
Victory Lap by Nipsey Hussle
February 16
Nipsey Hussle’s fans have been waiting for this album since 2013, it seems the wait is finally over. “Victory Lap” marks the beginning of the partnership with Hussle’s independent label All Money In and Atlantic Records to bring in his debut LP. With the visual for his single, “Rap Niggas” racking up more than 6.4 million views online, it’s looking like the fans are ready to run the victory lap with Nipsey.
Unknown Project by Trina
February 23rd
Trina also has a project rumored to come out on the 23rd of this month. The hip-hop legend sat down with Ebro in the morning where she discusses Kelly Price, 2 Chainz and 2 special guest making features on the album. Trina is keeping 2018 booked and busy with Love and Hip-Hop Miami as well as hints at new music with Nicki Minaj to also pop up in 2018.
And there you have it. A few albums that will get you through the 28 days of February.
